An American study says moderate alcohol intake is one of the key ingredients to live into your 90s.
One of the reasons why life is so precious is because it ends. This mortality often drove people crazy in the past and many have tried to extend their time on Earth just a bit more. The good news is that you don’t have to sell your soul to the Devil – although some cultures might dissagree with that – 2 glasses of beer or wine increase your chance of living into your 90s with a stunning 18%. This was one of the important outcomes of the so called 90+ Study performed by dr. Claudia Kawas of the University of California. Moderate drinking beat regular exercise (+11%) and 2 cups of coffee a day (+10%) as one of the secrets of reaching an old age.
The thing that was most likely to help people reach their 90s was finding a meaningful hobby that occupied them for 2 hours or more per day. These people saw their chances of turning 90 increase by 21%. It’s also important to mention that a little extra weight (not obese) also helps, a small 3% but still. A small beer belly is a big plus if you want to overcome some typical diseases and flaws that come with old age. Or as Kawas states it: “It’s not bad to be skinny when you’re young, but it’s very bad to be skinny when you’re old.”
So what’s the perfect retirement plan? Well, seems to us that as soon as you get your last pay check it’s time to devote yourself to the noble arts of beer brewing or wine making. Taste the fruits of this new hobby on a regular basis and make sure your eating matches this Burgundian lifestyle. Who knows, you might even reach the tripple digits, cheers!
